Agendas are a valuable organizational tool. I use them on a regular basis, so please feel free to jot me a note. Please check and sign your child's agenda daily for important news.
I have sent home yellow muliplication charts. Students in grade 4 are expected to have timetables memorized to 9X9. Please spend a few minutes each night working on timestables.
We had a fabulous day doing our Brass Rubbings workshop with Quessn Helene. The students were actively engaged and the art turned out beautifully. Please send in money and forms for our trip on June 6 to Medieval Times.
Track and Field day is on May 24. Please come prepared with running shoes, water and proper clothing to spend the day outdoors. I am excited to stand on the finish line and watch you all race.

We have gym on Days 2, 4 and 5. We don't need to change for gym, but do require indoor shoes that have support for running.
Library time is on Day 2 at 10:10 ( period 4). We are learning research skills and how to access reference books.
Science -Sound - We are learning about how sound travels, different sounds and doing sound experiments. Hoping to get to Rocks and Minerals very soon.
Social Studies - Medieval Times -We have just begun this unit and are learning about the social structure of the Medieval period. Lots of talk about kings, knights, nobles, vassals and serfs!
Language -
Reading - We are starting each day with Independent Reading and are learning how to respond to our reading with our Reader Response journals. We are learning about the elements of narratives (plot, setting, characters, problem, solution) as well as the characteristics of legend stories. We are also focusing on learning how to summarize what we read. To practise our fluency skills we read a variety of poems on a daily basis. We have been enjoying various reading activities through our Guided Reading Centres as well.
Writing - We have moved into recount writing and publishing various recounts. Watch for words like first, next, last, second, finally, when putting the events in order.
Oral Language -Book talks are occurring during quiet reading time.
Math - Number sense - Multiplication, division, counting money, fractions and problem solving
Algebra - Solving for the unknown number
Measurement - Time
Music - We are enjoying singing a variety of songs from our music books (luckily there is a CD so that we aren't tortured by my singing!!) Also working on notation. (spaces and lines of the treble clef)
