Track and Field

Good news! Our fields at the school have been leveled and re-seeded so we are able to host the running events again. So our whole day of Track and Field will be held at Cartwright. Our dates are set for Thursday May 24th, raindate Friday. Hopefully the weather will hold out for us.

If you as a parent would like to help out at our Track and Field Meet, just mark your calendar and send me a message in your child’s agenda. It is a full day program with the girls doing track events in the morning and boys doing the field events. After lunch they switch.

Grade 6 Testing (EQAO) is coming at the end of the month. Your child has been practicing EQAO type questions in Reading, Writing and Math throughout this year and we will revisit the actual format of the testing document closer to the testing dates. If you would like other practice materials, you can go to EQAO.com and click on "resources". As I have mentioned to the students time and time again, the test will be about material they have covered from Grades 4-6 and it will be just like completing one large independent assignment. We strongly encourage you, as parents, to be sure your child is on time and in attendance those days. Any child not writing the test will automatically receive a zero grade which will then be averaged into the school’s results in the Fall. I will be sending a form home later this month so you as parents can help us by providing "BRAIN FOOD" for the students. It seems if children are eating healthy snacks while working, they will be more energized and able to think clearer. It can’t hurt!

Our warmer weather is slowly making it’s home here in Blackstock. Since the warmer weather has arrived we have been doing more Physical Education outdoors, namely getting the students ready for Track and Field season which will be upon us very shortly. Please make sure your child has a good pair of outdoor running shoes as well as indoor ones. It is a lot easier to run distances outside without worrying about twisting an ankle in the process.
